For performance reasons the chat bar has been temporarily suspended.
I'm looking into other ways to provide a chat function that won't impact gameplay.
If the server is a linux based one and you can affinitize the process/thread to a core and then nice it down to death, that should work.
What about the first chat room we had that was just a lobby? Just something simple.
Yeah might have to go back to that or something similar. Player to player chat will probably not be on the cards.
Yeah. Dust off those AIM accounts if you want that level of immediacy.
Performance over convenience, esp. in this regard. PM'ing works well, since the envelope flashes when a new message arrives.

That's Premium only though (sending is anyway).
Yertle: I really don't know what we'd be doing if tom didn't start WG
Yertle: scary to think about :p

ah. I know nothing else but...
i haven't actually noticed any performance issues with the chat. what's been happening? what if the chat was limited to people who mutually friend each other? would that reduce the amount of work the site would need to run the chat feature?
It's not performance issues with the chat itself, it's the chat bar causing performance issues with the rest of the site (i.e. impacting gameplay speed).
It's nice to see some threads/posts about where'd the chat go and how about there be a chat :) Seems like it was used and liked.
