I opened it up so anyone can edit. I figured out how to revert in case of vandalism. If anyone wants to make a change that they think might be controversial, please discuss it here first.
What do you guys think of my suggestion for a new voting system for next round? I guess what I am proposing is a sort of 'Cumulative Voting' system. I got the idea from The Onion AV Club, when they vote for best of the year music:
We ask 16 writers who regularly contribute record reviews to the site to disperse 100 points each over no more than 15 albums. No album can receive more than 15 points or less than one point from any given contributor. Then we tally
We could do something similar. Judges get N votes (maybe N is the # of contestants), to distribute as they see fit. If one map is way better than the rest, they give it all N votes. If they thing two maps are clearly the best, but equally good, they each get N/2 votes each. Or maybe no map can get more than N/2 votes, or something.
I don't know... maybe it is too complicated.
that was one of the things that i was hoping to discuss. i saw it and kinda liked it; but not sure if we want to get so 'complicated'. 3-2-1 is pretty simple and doesn't have to be changed depending on how many submit (which makes sense to me if there's a minimum of 6)
I was thinking it might be good to add something to the rules stating that votes cannot be changed once made, or alternatively that votes can be changed up until the final deadline. Either way we should make it explicit.
Only one submission per designer?
So, what's everyone been up to?

So we would have to answer with a video or sound bite???
I'm just yelling out the window!
Ed Nygma - I don't have a strong opinion one way or the other.
i say one map per designer. That makes it more fair for those who are more pressed for time.
I guess obviously someone could make more maps that fit the theme, but they have to pick one to run in the competition. I guess they could even have all their themed maps under the 'competition' tab. Does that seem fair?
Risky! Glad to see you posting again.

Sounds fair to me. :)
I only ask because I have one done that fits the theme, and I wouldn't mind making another, since I have a few months to do so... I think one submission per designer is fair though.
I didn't realize we had chosen a theme.. and as there's several seige base maps already in dev or release it would probably be a good idea to chose something else...
That's fair, I asked in a forum recently if it had been decided, the general consensus seemed to be castle siege.
think we've got a couple days to decide. and nothing else got thrown on the table.
I don't care one way or the other, but several people like the siege idea, and there were no other suggestions.
@Weathertop - That's true, we still have two days to finalize a theme. Viper is the first to object, and I think it is getting too close to the deadline to solicit suggestions and have a vote, so I'd rather just stick with 'Siege' for this round. That said, we could relax the schedule a bit at this stage, and let the theme decision bleed into the scheduled map-making time by a few days if enough people want to.
I still like the siege theme.
