The perks offered by WF Plus membership that I used were, in ascending order of importance: vacation time, secret messaging, and the Stats tab (clutch if, like me, you're too illiterate/lazy to use plugins). I truly can't play without Plus because of that last one. I could live without secret messaging if I had to although I'm fairly certain I use it in Ranked games more than anyone else on the site.

mine would have the same 3 but ordered: SM, Stats, vaca. not sure if you get that title uncontested...

Personally I think you make 3-4 categories for a Map Designer to set for their map.

    1. Pay to Play - Must purchase to start any Open, Private, or Ranked game or Tournament.
    2. Free to All - Free to start any Open, Private, Ranked game and can set up Tournaments and Customize at will (still available to Purchase as well, ie donation).
    3. Free to Play/Customize - Free to start any Open, Private, Ranked game and can Customize Private games, unable to start a Tournament without Purchasing.
    4. Free to Play/Tournament - Free to start any Open, Private, Ranked game and can set up Tournaments, unable to Customize without Purchasing.

I never realized that vacation time on WF was plus members only...

It isn't, but I think you only get 14 days without Plus and 28 days with Plus.

Sheesh. You must work for Microsoft. How are gamers going to keep track of what board offers what purchasing choices, and then how does anyone ever reach price discovery for any particular tier? I think it should be simpler than that. There can be three options in the sense that you can make a board available for free, available only after purchase, or free with an option to purchase. But I think that what you get for buying the map should be a single package.

Reich is probably right. Sounds too complicated to me.

Other features on warfish only available in mods that were must haves for a veteran map-maker were Default Game Names, Default Player Names, Custom Player Colors, starting cards and reserve armies, Team Scenarios. These could easily be implemented into the base board designer here.

I'm not at all opposed to having no mod system so long as the base map designer is flexible and robust enough to handle all the little details (such as the ones I mentioned). I would like to see the ability to add more than one graphical skin to the same board.

Potentially then the Designer could allow the definition of multiple starting scenarios per board - so when you choose to start a game, you could also pick a preferred scenario (if not the default). Games played using these scenarios would all count as ranked games which would be an improvement on the WF system.

You would lose the capability to mod someone else's design, however if you really felt a designer should set up a new scenario then you could always just ask them.

The custom / team defined color definitions are already on my ToDo list.

Thanks for feedback on what to add to the 'premium options'.

Sure, just call them 'Scenarios' instead of 'mods'. Particularly since we're not really modifying the board, just the initial setup.

Ok this a different take on the Points idea

upon joining WarGear you get a one time gift of 30 points. Points are given to premium members at a rate of X a day (5 maybe)points have no cash value. points do not expire when your membership is up. points can be gifted to other players.

it costs X amount of points to start a tournament (10 for arguments sake) and X amount to join a tournament (lets say 4) then the winner gets 75% of the "buy in" and second place gets 25%.

Grudge matches- single game where all participants "buy in" and winner take all

Private in game messages for non members cost X points (lets say 1)

Clear vision- clears fog in a game for 1 round costs X points game designer can turn that option on or off (we will go with 40 points)

there could be a members ranking and nonmembers ranking for total points.

Kind of interesting, sort of like Free Online Texas Holdem, get a certain amount of chips, or in this case you are really playing with a type of Ranking... Could be just another interesting aspect of WG, although very tricky and would need to be restrictive so not easily abused.  As long as it's not really money and I would say it only used for a sort of Ranking, not to actually "buy" different gameplay or features.  I'd put it on a list of an interesting potential, but would suggest a long way off.

    Yertle is here.

A lot of people play at work. Gambling at work is a very, very bad idea that can get you fired. Even if gambling is optional, introducing wager games would make this a "gambling" site. There's no way that I, personally, would visit a gambling site at my work place, which would greatly reduce the appeal of wargear. I imagine a good number of people would feel the same way.

I admit I didn't read all the posts, so if this was already said, too bad, because it needs to be said again. NO GAMBLING. In any way, shape or form.

I'm pretty sure that sitting around playing board games on your computer all day is a very, very bad idea that can get you fired. ... If anyone bothered to look in on me, it would, at the least, result in a couple weeks of 'vacation' so that I could spend some time thinking about whether or not I want to continue working here. It's a calculated risk I think we all take.

But, point taken. Gambling is probably a 0 tolerance thing at most companies. Casual gaming is probably a spanking.

    Cram it.

I bought wf maps to set up regular one-off games vs friends before i became a plus member. I don't know that i would have become "plus" if i hadn't become addicted and then bored with the purchased maps. It's a good way to allow the player in at the shallow end.
