Is there stilll each month a competition with a prize?
I don't think so. I think Tom is still considering how to have a contest that encourages new players and doesn't end up dominated by the same players every month.
There are still map making contests, but they are on a 6 month schedule.
Maybe it is an idea to keep the ranking the same. But make like a rule:
A person that wins the competition, can only win again after three months. If they are next month the number 1, the number 2 wins!
If Tom is still considering it, I think it would be fun to mix each competition up a bit. One month the winner is based on team games, next month it's based on tournament games, next month it's based on 1v1 games, next month it's based on games with more than 8 players, next month games on wargear warfare don't count, next month only games in the current map making competition count, etc.
I think there are lots of things you can do with this, and it would be a fun way to promote more diverse playing among players, and force players out of their comfort zone if they want to win.
That's a nice idea!

Could also do Simul boards,
or boards with no top score higher than 1500,
or less than x number of players,
or x number of plays,
at the start of the month to get lesser played boards more exposure.

+1 to both of you
We could also add achievements/medals for winning x numbers of monthly competitions

To basically all of this
Since we have apparently lost berickf, the issue of the same dude winning every month should be gone.
Literally as soon as I wrote that he visited the site for the first time since October...

+2 This sounds like a fantastic idea! 8+ player games might not work. How many of those finish in a given month? All the others sound awesome.
