So all Ranked games can have Fog customized? And no games can have any other rules customized? Is that correct and is there a plan to allow rule customization? Doesn't changing the Fog setting change the game for Ranked?
The fog setting is a board design attribute - designers can set it so that either players can override the default fog setting when they create a game or they can't.
At the moment no games can have custom rules separate to those set by the designer. I could potentially set it up so non-ranked games could have custom rules, but I'm not sure how much demand there would be - on WF non-ranked games tended to be pretty unpopular.
Maybe that's just among the people you play with. I would say that nearly 90% of my 300-400 games (don't know off the top of my head) were played unranked, and most of the people I play with regularly don't play ranked at all.
Perhaps you just see a different queue there? I see and join open games all the time. I prefer them over ranked in fact.
Really? Ok wow. So you'd prefer to be able to customise the rules on your games? My feeling on rule customisation is the designer set the board up that way for a reason and hacking about the rules changes the game and could easily break the way it is balanced.
I almost never play ranked games but keep my game list very filled with tournaments and a very healthy number of general non-ranked games as well. And I love experimenting with changing various rules on maps, so such an option would be very beneficial imo.
Aye changing the Rules is very fun and you can create some great different games by changing just a few rules on the same map, especially with teams. I know it was suggested on WF at one point that only players that actually purchase the map are able to customize the rules, and while that could potentially be a setting the board designer allows I think it sucks :P.
In short though, yes customization of rules should be allowed IMO (in a Non-Ranked game that is).

As a designer, I did set them up a certain way on purpose. Ranked games should be forced into that, and all of them should be the same. Allow rules customizations as a privilege granted upon buying a board. Then its yours to hose up however you want.

Yep that sounds good to me.

Again I think this should be optional to the Board Designer. To allow Rule customization to their maps without purchasing or to be restricted to purchasing.
I see where Reich is going and agree with it in part. But for my maps (at least "basic Risk style") I wouldn't mind to allow players to customize the rules (if Premium member).
ahh is that who Cramchackle is...good to know.

I wholly agree with what Yertle is saying here. I've played tons of maps with varying levels of fog, and increased/decreased the number of sides on the dice depending on whether I wanted the game to be more aggressive or less aggressive. Modifying card sets, allowing return to attack from transfer, etc. Lots of variations when playing with my friends. Keep the ranked games constant, but not allowing rule changes in private or unranked completely reduces the functionality and playability for no good reason in my opinion.
