I wonder when the Email is sent, if it's sent right at the time of the PM then it's possible the player Deleted the message in which case there is no message to display :P
If the Email is delayed 5 minutes (which I believe is the max time allowed for a player to Delete a message), then the message should be there.
If the Email is sent right away, perhaps it should be delayed 5 minutes to ensure the message is still there to avoid confusion.

Thanks Yertle yes that's most likely the reason. I guess the problem with delaying the email is that in a fast moving game the email notification becomes a bit useless. Maybe an email to tell you that you don't actually have an email after all :)

Or block the deletion of private messages.

If you could still edit the message, you could essentially delete it, but the emailed player would see an empty message, so wouldn't be wondering why they got the email.

You can't "edit" you would have to Delete and recreate.
