    Just curious.

I originally wanted to do an Ultima IV board, but gave it up as too complicated.  I might still try to get a M.U.L.E. board done, but again to do it right is going to require a lot of work.  I might just sit this one out, but was curious if anyone else is working on something.

i was working on a donkey kong board awhile back and thought to bring it back out for this; but i haven't been able to think of unique game play to bring it up to par.

    I'm a man.
    But I can change,
    if I have to,
    I guess...

I got one cooking... and it's a good idea too. Not super original gameplay however.

I wasn't aware of any such contest. I don't see anything stickied anywhere.

Sorry Cram.  There really should be a sticky.  I'll write up a post later tonight and ask Yertle to sticky it.

    Here is the calendar:

Because of the extended timeline, you still have until October, so plenty of time to get started.

Well, I guess it's lucky I blew the dust off my Portals map when I did. It's not as classic as Oregon Trail, but it'll have to do.

    Portals was an instant classic.

    Portal* was an instant classic.

"Portals" is my very weak attempt at making it my own.

I have a rough idea, but haven't truly worked on it yet...which unfortunately was the case for a couple of the previous contests too...

If I could figure out how to draw a line in Photoshop I would be a lot more well off with the Mac thing...

Can I finish up my chess map, Knight's Tour, for this contest, or do I need to retheme it as Battle Chess to count?

Knight's Tour (link?) would prolly work without a rename if you can work a reference to Battle Chess into the description ;)

IMO, it would be ok to just rewrite the description, but I would probably knock it a bit in the voting for having a fairly weak connection to the theme.

Is anyone doing Tetris?  Seems like that is a classic that I have heard a few people have tried to tackle.  I thought of doing it with some kind of "conveyor belt" of pieces (similiar to Lego Factory Battle) to simulate the 'next piece(s)' display that some versions had, but never really could come up with something that would work in my head.  Although wargear map-making thought experiments are always a bit iffy anyway.

If you want fun thought experiments, can hidden factories be used to create a decent pseudo-random number generator?

How vintage does the video game have to be?  I'm trying to finish up Mario Kart and a new one that's not so vintage...

'Classic' is a pretty vague descriptor.  I think any arcade or video game is fair play.  Of course you're likely to do better among voters if they've heard of the game.

You can only submit one board as a contestant, so pick the one you are most proud of.

I would do Mario Kart if "classic" were more strict, but I'd much rather work on the other one.

It's simple in concept, but from what I've seen, it's been hard to pull off good.  Seems like someone had a decent version (on ToS I think)...but I can't think of who it was and can't find the board.

If I could figure out how to draw a line in Photoshop I would be a lot more well off with the Mac thing...

I think Alpha had one over here at some point.  It may not have gotten released.
