He didn't 'invite friends' to review his boards. He farmed fake logins to spam five-star reviews of his boards. As Kjeld points out, not only was real money at stake (I'm still owed a few bucks that I'll never see*), Reich ran the numbers and there was a HUGE gap in sales between the top handful of boards and the 'back catalog' because of the way the interface presented the boards to the user.
Obviously I could (continue to) rant about this but I don't want to derail y'all's efforts here, so I won't. But, though I thank you for the invitation, I will not be joining these particular games.
* Based on the revenue generated over the years by my own paltry offerings, I'm quite confident that given Doom's quantity of boards designed and their overall very high level of quality in most respects, the numbers we're talking about are in the low four figures at least.
Hey all, its October already so I suppose we should get a new map going for the BRG. I for one am excited for some hoody weather. Ozyman was randomly selected this month so he will have the honors. Just to clarify, if you have been selected in the past already and your number comes up you will be skipped until everyone has been chosen once. If you feel salty about that my number actually came up for the 1st month but I didn't want to be that guy.
exciting! I'll try to look at some maps this weekend and pick one out.
For my own sake, and for anyone else who's interested, I'm summarizing boards selected and suggested below:
Played:
May - Xrayjay - King of the Mountain
June - BoristheFrugal - Tree of Life
July - weathertop - Dungeon
August - BTDubs - Resource
September - IRsmart - Dooms' Mayan Adventures
October - Ozyman
Suggested:
Hugh:
-Escalation http://www.wargear.net/boards/view/Escalation
-Battlestar http://www.wargear.net/boards/view/Battlestar
-Vertigo http://www.wargear.net/boards/view/Vertigo
Amidon37: Slasher http://www.wargear.net/boards/view/Slasher
BorisTheFrugal: Helix http://www.wargear.net/boards/view/Helix
weathertop: Capture the Flag http://www.wargear.net/boards/view/Capture+the+Flag
I love Vertigo. Sneakily rewarding.
Holy Crow.... We've been doing this for 6 months. It's still "new" in my mind. Maybe wargear is some kind of parallel universe or black hole - where time flows slower...
Should add Q-bert to that suggestions list.
ratsy - I couldn't find Q-bert in the boards list, can you send a link?
And I agree, it's a parallel universe here!
It's called: @!#?@!?
A great selection thus far! There are just under 300 maps so I'm excited to see all the hidden gems that get dug up.
I'm going to go with War of the Titans:
http://www.wargear.net/boards/view/War+of+the+Titans
9.5 average rating and only 183 games played.
Currently, 1 two-day 7-player and 1 three-day 5-player are open
I made another 3 day to keep some spots open for community journeymen. Nice choice Ozy.
Ooo. That was the first board I remember playing on this site.
Do you guys want to change it to 2 months per board? 1 month seems to go pretty fast without really soaking in each board.
Started a smaller game with a 2 day timer if anyone is interested. The active game that we have going currently is going ðŸŒ

Meh. Play more games. Start a bunch on the boards we revived. the group will join.
I like that a new one comes along each month - cause then I don't have to linger if I don't really like it.
